snl on wilson

Last night NBC debuted a half-hour Thursday night version of Saturday Night Live's Weekend Update. The opening sketch was a great take on last week's "You lie!" outburst by Rep. Addison Graves(yet another right-wing hero not really named "Joe") Wilson Sr. Check out the first five minutes of this clip:

I saw this last night and the implications really say to me, that there were some in the party that are happy and proud of what happened, and are now living vicariously through Joe Wilson to their constituents, which is sad. On the other hand, I do believe Newt Gingrich when he says it was regrettable. Having grown up with my mother who at one time was on the Exec board of GOP, there was a time where Dems & Republicans would argue like cats and dogs on the floor, but would retire to the senators club for a scotch & cigar and hash it out in a more civil discourse. I am at the point where I think we need to really work on electing fewer extremes (on both sides) and bring the decorum back to a point of civility that has been missing for quite a while.
Maybe if we took the cameras out, there would be less grandstanding and more action.
