Mr. Bush's final approval rating is the lowest final rating for an outgoing president since Gallup began asking about presidential approval more than 70 years ago.Seventy-three percent say they disapprove of the way Mr. Bush has handled his job as president over the last eight years. But, on the positive side, Bush is doing a lot better than Cheney, who has a 13% approval rating.
The rating is far below the final ratings of recent two-term presidents Bill Clinton and Ronald Reagan, who both ended their terms with a 68 percent approval rating, according to CBS News polling.

You have to wonder just what the 22% see about Bush that would lead them to approve of his performance. Having Bush as our President has been like watching a major league baseball pitcher start a game, pitch 1 1/3 innings, give up 27 hits and 21 runs, hit five batters, and get a positive test result for steroids that comes in during the game. Sadly, we've all been the players in the dugout laboring through this performance. And, despite it all, 22% of the population think this pitcher did a "heckuva" job. Thank goodness the transition is days away!
My favorite part of the Bush/Cheney farewell tour is their "No terrorist attacks in seven years" meme. It would be a little more convincing if not for the inconvenient fact that the worst act of terror in this country's history occurred on their watch. To continue the baseball metaphor, it's like claiming to have pitched 8 innings of no-hit ball after giving up 10 runs in the first inning. The other inconvenient truth ignored by these claims is the escalation of terrorist violence everywhere else in the world during the past 7 years.
